Sweetgum bark and trunk

Sweetgum, (liquidambar stryaciflua) if the bark and trunk are not immediately distinguishable, the prickly balls found year-round below this tree will be helpful in identification. The longitudinal furrows are not as deep as the Tulip Poplar. Bark is brownish-gray.
