Empress Tree blooms in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, April 30, 2017

Paulownia tomentosa

Found in the parking lot of the Horticultural center. Serving as a specimen tree, unlike so many others in the park, growing as invasive weeds. It will also grow into the walls of buildings.

Nevertheless the beauty of this species stopped us in our tracks.

Native to China.

Here it is showing its growth habit.
