Today, April 11, 2023 on a late afternoon walk. We lamented on how quickly the spring ephemerals will wither away. Seeing them so vibrant and fresh is almost heartbreaking knowing that they will be gone so soon.
EARLY SAXIFRAGE AND TROUT LILY AT NORVIN GREEN STATE FOREST, NEW JERSEY
Saxifraga virginiensis, Erythronium americanum
Today Isabelle and I hiked 4 miles here and saw not one other person. At the top we had a great view of the Manhattan skyline. We came across a surprising patch of Trout Lily near the creek, close to the parking area, and a delightful display of Early Saxifrage along the trails. We also came across Hepatica americana, just one specimen, pictured with a purple flower. We were graced with a gorgeous blue dome and mild, balmy temperatures. Not bad for a Monday.
